Nelson Campaign Staffer Harassing Black Leaders.

Why is a close personal friend of the Deschutes County Sheriff (but not a DCSO employee) harassing Black leaders and asking them if they have criminal records?

You all remember old Greg?

For those who don’t remember or are new to our page, approximately a million years ago (in June) the Peacekeepers exposed Greg Walker for his history or racism, jokes about sexual assault, racism, dehumanizing language about homeless people, racism, full throated support for police brutality...oh, and racism.

We exposed Greg because he isn’t just your run-of-the-mill old racist guy on the internet. He’s also a close personal friend of Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson. Those who follow our page closely will recall that Sheriff Nelson gave his racist buddy Greg a no-bid contract to teach “verbal Judo” to DCSO employees, paid for with your tax dollars.

Well, Greg is at it again. For reasons known only to Greg (and presumably Sheriff Nelson), Walker is now reaching out to every local Black Lives Matter leader he can manage to find contact info for. He has been sending harassing letters full of demands for personal information, including demands that they reveal to him whether or not they have ever been arrested or have a criminal record.

This behavior is so deeply, profoundly racist that the phrase “dog whistle” doesn’t even come close to describing it. It is reminiscent of the exact same sort of racist smear campaigns conducted by law enforcement (from small town Sheriffs all the way up to the FBI) during the civil rights movement of the 1960’s.

The Peacekeepers are willing to bet that Greg Walker has never written a letter like that to any Central Oregon activist with white skin. Luckily for us, we don’t have to bet because we know most of them, and we’re going to ask. We’re also going to ask the Sheriff why this man who has worked for several of his campaigns is stalking and harassing Black movement leaders.

In the days to come, we might even finally be ready to reveal some of what we discovered in our public records request for emails between Greg and the Sheriff.

Stay tuned, Central Oregon.

Part 5 - It's Not too Late

We’ve spent this week doing a dive in to a point in history that could easily repeat itself if we aren’t careful. In some instances it already has, in some instances its still in its infancy and some
